It was Hitchcock's third all-talkie film. When a woman (Norah Baring) is convicted of murder, one of the men selected to serve on the murder trial jury (Herbert Marshall) believes the accused, an aspiring actress, is innocent of the crime and takes it upon himself to apprehend the real killer.Rich and strange: Adapted by Hitchcock, his wife Alma, and Val Valentine from a novel by Dale Collins. This film is most notable for the techniques utilized by Hitchcock that would reappear later in his career, as well as the sets, including a recreation of a full-sized ship in a water tank used in the final act of the film. The director also experimented with different camera techniques and shot compositions. It is the story of a discontented, bickering young couple (Henry Kendall and Joan Barry) who, having suddenly come into a large sum of money, decide to take a world cruise which sets off a series of adventures. Released is the U.S. under the title East of Shanghai.Sabotage: A top-notch thriller of intrigue and espionage based on Joseph Conrad's novel The secret agent. It was also released as The woman alone, and should not be confused with Hitchock's film Secret agent released the same year, or his 1942 film Saboteur. A movie cashier (Sylvia Sidney) suspects her mild-mannered husband is a traitor who is terrorizing London. The farmer's wife (silent): Based on a play by Eden Phillpotts. It is the story of a widower (Jameson Thomas) who, with the help of his housekeeper Minta (Lilian Hall-Davis), seeks out a new wife. After being rejected four times, he finally sees Minta for the first time as more than a housekeeper. The lodger (silent): Based on the novel by Marie Belloc Lowndes, and on the play Who is he?, co-written by Lowndes, about the Jack the Ripper murders. It concerns the hunt for a "Jack the Ripper" type serial killer in London. The wrong man (Ivor Novello) is accused of the crime and is forced to try to prove his innocence. The sorcerer's apprentice: A seventh-season episode of Alfred Hitchcock presents. The story and teleplay were written by Robert Bloch, the author of Psycho. A retarded boy is taken in by a kind carnival magician and is later manipulated into killing him by his deceitful wife. Later when the wife backs out of her promise, she meets a gruesome fate. Not rated.DVD.
