The eternal party : understanding my dad, Larry Hagman, the TV star America loved to hate / by Hagman, Kristina,author.(CARDINAL)412978; Kaye, Elizabeth,1945-author.(CARDINAL)386784;
Dad's Last Day -- A Forensic Study: The Search for My Father -- Pot and Friends to Share It -- Two Stars -- Real Texas Roots -- Dad Goes into the Family Business -- The Eternal Party --- Set Free in the Wide-Open Country -- Life Above the XXX Cinema -- Taking Art in a New Direction -- Dreaming of Jeannie -- LSD Trips of Another Kind -- A Trip with Dad to Nowhere Land -- Malibu -- Finding Work, Dallas, and Fame -- Real Life -- Parents -- The Miracle of Medicine -- A Double Life and Alzheimer's -- Forgiveness."When you have a very famous father, like mine, everyone thinks they know him. My Dad, Larry Hagman, portrayed the storied, ruthless oilman JR on the TV series Dallas. He was the man everyone loved to hate, but he had a personal reputation of being a nice guy who fully subscribed to his motto: Have Fun, Don't Worry, Be Happy. Dad had a famous parent too, Mary Martin, known from many roles on Broadway, most memorably as Peter Pan. Off-stage she was a kind, elegant woman, who maintained the down home charm of her Texas roots. Both were performers to the core of their beings, masters at crafting their public images. They were beloved. And their relationship was complex and often fraught. My father never apologized for anything, even when he was wrong. But in the hours before he died, when I was alone with him in his hospital room, he begged for forgiveness. In his delirium he could not tell me what troubled him but somehow I found the words to comfort him. After he died I was compelled to learn why he felt the need to be forgiven. As I solved the troubling mystery of why my happy-go-lucky, pot-smoking, LSD-taking Dad had spent his last breaths begging to be forgiven, I also came to know my father and grandmother better than I had known them in life."

Director of photography, Gerald Hirschfeld ; editor, Ralph Rosenblum.Dan O'Herlihy, Walter Matthau, Frank Overton, Edward Binns, Larry Hagman, Fritz Weaver, Henry Fonda."This unnerving procedural thriller painstakingly details an all-too-plausible nightmare scenario in which a mechanical failure jams the United States military's chain of command and sends the country hurtling toward nuclear war with the Soviet Union. Working from a contemporary best seller, screenwriter Walter Bernstein and director Sidney Lumet wrench harrowing suspense from the doomsday fears of the Cold War era, making the most of a modest budget and limited sets to create an atmosphere of clammy claustrophobia and astronomically high stakes. Starring Henry Fonda as a coolheaded U.S. president and Walter Matthau as a trigger-happy political theorist, Fail Safe is a long-underappreciated alarm bell of a film, sounding an urgent warning about the deadly logic of mutually assured destruction"--Container.Rating: Not rated.Optional English subtitled for the deaf and hard of hearing (SDH).DVD, NTSC, region 1; 16:9 wide screen presentation (1.85:1 aspect ratio); Dolby Digital mono.
