Music : Alain Romans and Franck Barcellini ; director of photography : Jean Bourgoin ; sound engineer : Jacques Carrere ; cameramen : Paul Rodier, Claude Lecomte ; editor : Suzanne Baron ; production : Louis Dolivet and Alain Terrouanne.Jacques Tati (Uncle Hulot); Jean-Pierre Zola (M. Arpel); Adrienne Servantie (Mme. Arpel); Alain Becourt (Gérard); Lucien Frégis (M. Richard); Dominique Marie (neighbor); Betty Schneider, J. F. Martial, Yvonne Arnaud.Originally produced in France as a motion picture in 1958.Little Gerard enjoys spending time with his uncle, Mr. Hulot, a dreamer and bohemian character who lives in an old and run-down city district. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arpel and Gerard, meanwhile live in an ultra-modern geometric house and garden, Villa Arpel, in a new suburb of Paris. Gerard's parents are entrenched in a machine-like existence of work, fixed gender roles, the acquisition of status through possessions, and conspicuous display to impress guests. Each element of the villa is stylistically- rather than functionally-designed thus ignoring the comfort of its inhabitants. Gerard's trips with his uncle contrast with the sterility and monotony of life with his parents. Then, Gerard's father plans to hire Mr. Hulot at his factory and Gerard's mother plans to match Mr. Hulot with one of the neighbor ladies.
